Tennis News - Miami and More!
“This Week’s Drop Shots” details the latest results, hot takes, and breaking news from around the tennis world in a quick and easy-to-read format.
Happy Wednesday tennis fans! Another week of tennis is in the books, and it’s been great to see both new faces and old veterans find success on the slow hard courts in Miami. If you haven’t been able to watch, here’s what you need to know:
Miami Open - ATP
Many Americans looked good to start the tournament, including former Miami champion John Isner. But it’s one man who has impressed the field and the fans the most: 20-year-old Sebastian Korda! He already has wins over Karatsev, Fognini, and Schwartzman this tournament, and is through to the quarterfinals.
Other young players such as Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev have also managed to pick up big wins and stay alive in Miami. Roberto Bautista Agut is the only true veteran left in the draw, and he has a tall task in Medvedev this evening. NextGen players closing out a Masters 1000? This is what we like to see!
Miami Open - WTA
Half of the semifinals are set on the women’s side, and #1 seed Ash Barty has returned to the top form we expect, with wins over Azarenka and Sabalenka in her last 2 matches. She is set to face Elina Svitolina, who has had her own impressive run to the semis by taking out Rogers, Alexandrova, Kvitova, and Sevastova.
The other side of the draw depends on Sakkari vs. Osaka and Andreescu vs. Sorribes Tormo. Both of these matches take place later today, with Osaka and Andreescu being heavy favorites to advance.
Upcoming CR Tournaments
Level 1 - USTA Boys' 18 Sections Invitational Championship
Level 6 - Cracked Racquets Spring Invitational
