Umm…Roger?
Roger Federer made some remarks in an award acceptance that raised eyebrows and scared many tennis fans. Upon receiving the award for being Switzerland’s greatest athlete of the last 70 years, he said, “I hope that in 2021 I will return to the courts. We will see…but if my career had to end here, well it would be incredible to end it with this award.” He’s mentioned his concerns with being in shape in time for the Australian Open, but we assume he’s still looking to be ready for the Olympics and Wimbledon this year. Regardless…the thought of the imminent retirement of Fed is scary for the tennis fans who have loved him for decades. Check out the full scoop here!
WTA Player and Coach Awards
The WTA recently announced its awards for 2020, which makes us reflect on the highlights of a bizarre and frustrating year.
Player of the Year: Sofia Kenin
Doubles Team of the Year: Kristina Mladenovic / Timea Babos
Most Improved Player: Iga Swiatek
Newcomer of the Year: Nadia Podoroska
Comeback Player of the Year: Victoria Azarenka
Sportsmanship Award: Marie Bouzkova
Player Service Award: WTA Players’ Council
Coach of the Year: Piotr Sierzputowski
