This Week's Drop Shots: November 25th, 2020
“This Week’s Drop Shots” details the latest results, hot takes, and breaking news from around the tennis world in a quick and easy-to-read format.
Happy Thanksgiving from the Cracked Racquets family! We hope everyone enjoys a safe holiday! ATP tennis has wrapped up for the season with the conclusion of the Tour Finals, so now we wait for its return along with WTA action. Let’s recap the most recent tennis:
Nitto ATP Finals
Daniil Medvedev picked up the biggest title of his career with an impressive win over Dominic Thiem in the final. Medvedev continued the recent trend and became yet another first-time champion (5 years in a row) of this event. He joins elite company by securing this title, an elusive one for many greats of the sport (Rafael Nadal included).
In the doubles competition, Wesley Koolhof and Nikola Mektic captured their first title as a team (crazy, right?) with a tight win over Melzer/Roger-Vasselin in the final. This event was incredibly competitive for the top teams in the world, as 10 of the 15 matches required a 10-point tiebreak to decide the outcome. Hopefully you were lucky enough to catch some of the action!

Australian Open 2021?
With the Australian Open (as normally scheduled) only a couple of months away, fans and players have been looking ahead to the first slam of the calendar year. BUT…there are still so many questions around the event: will it need to be moved to a later date, can players be ready to compete under the current quarantine/travel guidelines in Australia, what will the fan/spectator dynamic look like, etc. The latest information is from the sports minister of Victoria, who said that it will most likely be delayed. We’ll keep you updated, so follow us on social media to see the latest news on the Australian Open!
