Weekly Tennis Update - June 3rd
“This Week’s Drop Shots” details the latest results, hot takes, and breaking news from around the tennis world in a quick and easy-to-read format.
Well, it was Alex Gruskin of Cracked Racquets who said it in his latest article: injuries may be the only thing that can slow Ashleigh Barty down this season…and unfortunately, that’s what happened this morning as the No. 1 seed retired from her match. Let’s talk about what else is going on at Roland Garros:
French Open Update - ATP
On the men’s side, the tournament got off to a surprising start with Thiem losing in the first round being up two sets to none, but his form hadn’t been great leading up to the French anyway. We’ve seen some great American success as several men are into the 3rd round, including Isner, Opelka, Giron, and Johnson. Today’s slate of matches includes everything from all members the Big 3 to NextGen talents such as Alcaraz…so hop on Tennis Channel and see it for yourself! Tomorrow, several seeded players will have to bring their best to survive and advance to the 4th round.
French Open Update - WTA
With the two top seeds in the draw knocked out, the women’s tournament is even more wide open than usual, as other contenders such as Muguruza, Kvitova, and Pliskova are also no longer in the draw. Swiatek still has a chance to defend her title, but other players such as Kenin, Svitolina, Sabalenka, S. Williams, and Azarenka may stand in her way. Tomorrow, two all-American affairs are certainly worth keeping your eye on: Kenin vs. Pegula and Serena vs. Collins.
